SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

The Corporate Social Responsibility approach we adopt at Aromsa not only contributes to society but also aims to create holistic value that encompasses our employees, our environment and our business partners. We have determined our long-term goals as creating a lasting impact by integrating social benefit-oriented projects with sustainability principles, contributing to social development at local and global levels, and setting an example in our industry. In this regard, we continue our efforts for a sustainable future with long-term projects in a wide range of areas, from education to the environment, from culture and arts to sports and social responsibility.

During the reporting period, we continued to allocate resources to social development through volunteering activities, donations and sponsorships to support the Sustainable Development Goals.

We prioritize stakeholder engagement in all our work areas and have been conducting a Community Satisfaction Survey (CSS) periodically since 2015 to make measurements in areas such as reputation, social impact, prevention of discomfort and harm, protection of resources, etc. as part of our social development activities. The results of CSS serve as input in the identification of improvement areas and development of action plans. We direct our resources by preparing an annual ‘Community Activity Plan’ in line with the feedback from our stakeholders.

In order to reach a wider audience with our Corporate Social Responsibility projects, we raise awareness by publishing posts about our work through our corporate accounts on social media platforms. We ensure visibility regarding our activities by transparently sharing the social and sectoral events we contribute to and sponsor in magazines and press releases that we publish on our company website.

SOCIAL BENEFIT-ORIENTED VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES

In line with our Social Factory vision, we aim to offer our employees not only a safe and healthy work environment but also a culturally and socially productive living space by implementing projects that support individual and social development.

Our social clubs operate in various areas to support the personal development of employees and strengthen employee relations. While providing opportunities for employees to develop their creative and social skills, the social clubs also undertake various projects to provide social benefits. In 2024, we launched our Aromsa Volunteers brand to make volunteering activities more visible and sustainable within our company. We combined our vision of creating social benefit with the voluntary contributions of our employees.

Social clubs uniting for social benefit

OUR SOCIAL CLUBS

At Aromsa, we encourage our employees to volunteer in social responsibility projects through social clubs. During the reporting period, approximately 50% of our employees participated in social benefit-oriented volunteering activities.

The Music Club, Theatre Club, Book Club, Travel Club and Photography Club organize different events at certain times each year to bring our employees together and strengthen communication and interaction among them.

Continuing its artistic journey for seven years, Aromsa Theatre Club AromaTIK donates the income from the plays it performs to the Association for the Support of Children with Visual Impairment, TEMA and the Koruncuk Foundation, thus transforming art into social benefit.

We had the pleasure of hosting 78 children between the ages of 6 and 12 in our Company for three days as part of the ‘1 Day with Children’ event organized in 2024 with the participation of our employees’ children.

The Aromsa Music Club, which aims to interact with different segments of society by using the unifying power of music, continues to give concerts and visit nursing homes as part of special occasions such as ‘Respect for the Elderly Week’, ‘Mother’s Day’ and ‘Father’s Day’. Supporting the health and well-being of older individuals, increasing their social interactions, strengthening their mental health, improving their quality of life and contributing to the formation of an inclusive society are key social responsibilities. We strive to support the Sustainable Development Goals and create value through nursing home visits, which we carried out in 2024 with the participation of 15 volunteer employees under the coordination of the Aromsa Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

We held the 2024 New Year’s Concert, prepared by Aromsa Music Club, at the Aromsa Suat Yasa Conference Hall and the revenues of the concert were donated to the TEMA Foundation.

Strong Solidarity in Pursuit of Goodness

While continuing to contribute to society through our volunteering initiatives, we also encourage our employees to take an active role in social responsibility projects. Through the projects we carry out in the fields of education, environment, culture, arts and sport, we continue to make a positive impact in the community.

At the Istanbul Marathon, the world’s only marathon run between two continents, we take part every year, running to support various non-governmental organisations, primarily the Darüşşafaka Society. Our team, which runs with the aim of promoting quality education and equal opportunities in education, continues to strengthen solidarity for a better future and hopeful tomorrows.

During the reporting period, a total of 70 Aromsa volunteers contributed to the future of our children in cooperation with the Darüşşafaka Society, which operates with the mission of ‘Equal Opportunities in Education.’

We don’t forget our animal friends, and we regularly donate food to dog feeding points across the GOIZ.

Supporting education through scholarships and mentoring

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES

EDUCATION

We support associations that carry out projects in the field of education, provide scholarships to students, provide educational materials to improve educational opportunities in schools in our region, and host technical trips to universities.

We provide ‘coaching’ to students studying at vocational high schools within the scope of the ‘Vocational High School Coaches Program’ in cooperation with the Private Sector Volunteers Association (ÖSGD). As part of our volunteer-based work, we provide mentoring support to female students who are facing challenges in university life, especially those studying or residing in schools in earthquake zones, through the My Sister Project, which we launched in collaboration with the Private Sector Volunteers Association (ÖSGD).

We continued the My Sister Project, initiated in collaboration with ÖSGD, during the reporting period as well. While our founder Murat Yasa passed down his knowledge to students in his classes, our senior managers carried out mentoring processes for university students. As part of the program that aims to create permanent collaboration models between companies and vocational high schools, we provide ‘Voluntary Coaching’ to 10th and 11th grade students.

We also provide an educational scholarship to a violist student at the Berlin Music School.

In collaboration with the Village Teachers Assistance and Solidarity Association, we provide educational materials such as tablet PCs and desktop computers to village schools in need every year, and we support students in need with donations of boots, coats, etc. At the end of each year, we donate all the books collected for the Sustainable Christmas Tree, which we create with books donated by employees, to children and youth libraries established in village schools through the same association.

We value equal opportunities in education, and as a Koç University Anatolian Scholars Program Donor, we contribute to the efforts facilitating access of successful and needy students to quality education.

In the 41st year of our establishment (2022), we wanted to extend a branch of hope to our children, who are our future, and leave a little smile on their faces. This year, our little children in Ağrı blew their cake and got their toys. In support of the Hope Branch Project, we wanted 41 little children in Ağrı to welcome the winter more warmly by gifting them coats and boots. We are happy to be a part of such a kindness project.

During the reporting period, we also continued to support the education of GOIZ Tadım Jale Yücel Vocational High School students, for whom we had established a laboratory in previous years and provided training on the use of devices and technical issues.

Accessible education and social responsibility initiatives

The income from the autobiography book “Red Bricks” authored by our founder Murat Yasa, and published in 2023, is donated to the association in cooperation with the Association for the Support of Children with Visual Impairment to support visually impaired children’s access to equal educational opportunities.

This book, which includes sections from Murat Yasa’s life, his experiences in the business world, and his value-oriented leadership approach, brings together an inspiring life story with the readers. All proceeds from the sale of the book are donated to the association, and those who wish can also contribute to this meaningful cause by donating directly using the QR code on the book’s cover. By supporting this project, we also contribute to providing visually impaired children with quality and accessible education opportunities.

During the reporting period, we organised a signing day where our General Manager, Murat Yasa, met with employees.

Our Collaborations with Universities

As part of our collaborations with leading academic institutions in our country, we host technical trips for university faculty members and students, offering our young people the opportunity to observe the dynamics of the industry firsthand. During the reporting period, we reached out to more than 100 students at Middle East Technical University (METU), Yıldız Technical University (YTU), Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Bilgi University, Topkapı University, and Haliç University to share our experiences.

We Are Here for Education: Library Support

We continue our work within the scope of our We Are Here for Education project to support the access of our children affected by the earthquakes centred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, to quality education. “As part of the collaboration between Aromsa and our school, we have contributed to the personal development of our students through training and coaching projects, and provided financial support and experience sharing for the efficient use of our food laboratories, from the supply of equipment to their use and even maintenance. Thanks to these contributions, our students have made significant gains in both theory and practice, and have been trained as individuals better equipped for the future. Aromsa’s contribution to this process has played an important role in improving the quality of our education activities. As the Food Technology teacher at our school, I would like to thank Aromsa for their support, which adds value to our students.”

ENVIRONMENT

As part of our collaboration with the Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats (TEMA), we contribute to the afforestation of our country and the protection of nature by donating to the TEMA Foundation on behalf of our employees who participate in the events we organize within the Company. We donate saplings to each employee who participates in the special day themed workshop events we organize for our employees at Remzet Hanım’s Kitchen, our Culinary Arts Workshop named after the mother of our Founder and General Manager Murat Yasa, and present donation certificates to our employees.

In addition, after special events organized by our social clubs within the Company, we donate saplings to the TEMA and Koruncuk Foundations on behalf of each of our club members and present them with certificates.

CULTURE AND ARTS

Aromsa Chamber Orchestra

Since 2022, we have been supporting the Aromsa Chamber Orchestra, which continues its artistic activities under the management and coaching of Cihat Aşkın. We offer sponsorship support for the orchestra concerts throughout the year at Süreyya Opera House, aiming to provide young talents with stage experience and to train them as young musical leaders of the future. The Aromsa Chamber Orchestra, which we established to contribute to cultural development in our country, dedicates a special place to the works of Turkish composers in its concerts, keeping the national musical heritage alive while also introducing a universal understanding of music to its audience.

By offering invitations and enabling our employees to attend concerts, we contribute to cultural development while also enhancing employee motivation. In line with the vision of our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk of a “social factory,” we aim to create a positive impact on our employees, stakeholders, and the society in which we live. Art is one of the most powerful ways of making this impact.

In 2024, we sponsored the 5th METU IFT R&D Competition organized by Middle East Technical University, the first and only student branch of IFT (Institute of Food Technologists) in Türkiye. At the event, our R&D unit managers served as jury members and evaluated the innovative projects of young people. Our human resources team answered students’ professional questions throughout the event and offered insightful guidance on their career journeys.

The concerts, sponsored by Aromsa since 2022, increase the visibility of young artists and create a lasting cultural impact by focusing on environmental and social awareness. This collaboration stands out as an exemplary model that supports the continuity of art.”

Social collaborations that promote social equality and strengthen economic participation

CONTRIBUTION TO WOMEN’S EMPLOYMENT

We advocate for gender equality and the reduction of inequalities, encourage responsible production and consumption, and establish partnerships to support women’s labour and development. We stand with women’s producer cooperatives to support women in improving their quality of life and overcome their economic challenges. In this context, we collaborate with initiatives that aim to empower women in society by adding visibility to women’s labour. We contribute to the empowerment of women by gifting handmade products produced by working women to our employees and their families on special occasions such as Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day.

Sponsorship of Lavender Days on the Princes’ Islands

We served as the main sponsor of Lavender Days, organised by the Adalar Museum in partnership with the Adalar Mimosa Initiative and in collaboration with Adalar Municipality and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Adalar Coordination Office. The event was held on Büyükada and Heybeliada between 19 and 24 July 2022.

Click here to read the interview “Island Enthusiast Murat Yasa and the Red Bricks” by Özlem Yüzak, published in Adalı Magazine, April 2023.

Commenting on the event, our General Manager, Murat Yasa, stated:

“In recent years, as floral flavours have gained prominence in the food industry, we have observed increased use of lavender in categories such as beverages, chocolate and tea. Through the efforts of our R&D centre, we deliver creative and innovative solutions to our customers, with lavender extracts standing out across multiple categories. I would also like to congratulate the organising committee for their dedication to raising awareness around women’s labour in Türkiye. At Aromsa, women make up half of our workforce and approximately 70% of our management team. By ranking 42nd on the recently published list of the ‘Top 50 R&D Centres by Number of Women Employees in 2021,’ we have demonstrated our commitment to gender equality, diversity and inclusion. We are proud to support the Princes’ Islands Lavender Days, which showcases the contributions of local women and promotes lavender cultivation.”

As part of the event, our Technical Sales Manager delivered a presentation titled “Food and Lavender Flavours.” The session covered the role of lavender in the food industry, the distinct aromas this vibrant ingredient brings to daily life, as well as lavender oil and extraction methods. Participants also enjoyed an unforgettable tasting experience featuring lavender-flavoured ice cream, soft drinks and confectionery.

In collaboration with Turquoise Tassel, we support the labour of women producers in our region by purchasing products designed by them to give as gifts to our female employees on special days such as Mother’s Day, Women’s Day, etc., and help them overcome their hardships.

Within the framework of our collaboration with the İyimser Abla social initiative, we purchased gift sets prepared by the women producers of Gümüldür Gümöz Mandarin Women’s Cooperative, Karşıyaka Women’s Cooperative, Hatay Defne Women’s Cooperative and KEP Textile Workshop and gifted them to all our female employees on March 8, Women’s Day in 2024.

In collaboration with the Foundation for the Support of Women’s Work (NAHIL), we contribute to strengthening women’s leadership in local development by sourcing products produced by women to create a strong society free of poverty and inequality.
